My daughter will be attending Elon in the fall. Are there specific requirements for computers? She has a Dell laptop. It isn't very old (about a year and a half), but almost out of memory and sorely in need of RAM. Before we upgrade it for her, I want to make sure we shouldn't be in the market for a new one. I have looked on Elon's website, but haven't found anything. Thanks for any information!

Your daughter has already been accepted??? How is that possible?

hey...she was a NC Junior Scholar her junior year....she received her formal acceptance a last month.

Congrats to your D!!! That's great! My S is OOS and we're hoping for an early acceptance too. (unfortunately not as early as your D) :)

Congratulations. Elon has a page that provides some general guidelines and also links to "preferred" partners (Dell, Gateway and Apple). But my son bought an HP for a little less than the similarly configured Dell and it's been fine.

Thank you so much! That is exactly what I was looking for!

momsworried.........thank you. Good luck to your son!

Congrats to nchome and good look to momsworried (great name). The recommendations at Elon's tech page suggest a Windows operating system better than Vista Home or the currently available Mac system. I usually opt for Dell but didn't have much luck last summer finding something available with the upgraded operating system in time for D to take to Elon. Also Dell prices will edge up if you're looking for something not currently promoted. If your computer is 1 1/2 years old now and cramped for space I suspect you're best off starting new in late spring or early summer. I'd keep checking in with Elon's tech site recommendations and wait to buy something until then (probably with an extended full coverage warranty which adds $$$ but is a safe bet). We ended up with a nicely discounted Mac picked up easily at a local source with a printout of the cost provided from the Elon site. Dell is a good option but you might want to shop for awhile before mid-June to find a competetive deal and get it delivered in time (they backorder all summer long and don't tell you).
