-CS 61A - 4 units
-Math 53 (if Hutchings still has room)/54 - 4 units
-CS 70 - 4 units
-Easy breadth :(</p>
<p>I want around 18-20 units, but I'm curious as to whether I'm allowed to a) take both 61 series and 70 concurrently and if you guys have any recommendations for easy breadth courses (L&S). Any responses are appreciated. Thanks!</p>

Although most of the work in the class will be pencil-and-paper exercises, you may occasionally be expected to do small programming assignments. *</p>
<p>re Hutchings: I think you should go ahead and put yourself on the waitlist for one of the discussion sections. They'll open a lot more sections in due time--the math department tends not to turn away students, especially not for a professor as popular as Hutchings. There were about 500 kids enrolled in the class by the end of the fall 2007 semester, so you shouldn't have anything to worry about.</p>
<p>As for electives, I've heard good things about Lightfoot's Anthro 2AC class.</p>

<p>I didn't quite catch the prereq for CS 70 -- oops. Can I take EECS 42 instead? Is taking EECS 42 without concurrent enrollment in EECS 43 wise?</p>
<p>Generally, about 1 in 10 people drop out of a class within the usual drop deadline, so there is a possibility of not landing in x class. For lower division math classes, however, the math department will try to squeeze into the class as many people as the lecture hall permits and then find more TAs to open new discussion sections. Last year, I thought about signing up for Hutchings' 53 class about 2 weeks before instruction started but was dismayed to see that ~300 were already enrolled and 40 more were on the waitlist. After like 5 weeks of class, there were 500 people in the class. So you shouldn't really be worried about Math 53. I'd actually sign up for that class during Phase 2 Telebears.</p>
<p>yes, you can take EE 42 since the official prereq is Math 1B. Although the old prerequisites for that class included Math 1B and Physics 7B, so you might wanna brush up on your AP Physics before taking the class.</p>
<p>Is Teleman really that not-as-good-as-Hutchings?</p>
