I was curious on what the computer science admissions process was like. I keep hear people talking about direct admits, prerequisites, running start, and other stuff that I don't know about. I heard that Berkeley does a thing where when you get accepted you just do a normal two years then you see if you get accepted into the computer science program which could be pretty risky. Is that true about Berkeley and is that what UW is like. Please be very detailed about everything because I am very confused about this. Thanks.

AT UCB, you are required to take 7 pre-req classes in the first two years. And if you maintain a 3.0 average GPA in those seven classes you can petition to major in BA Computer Science. The 3.0 GPA is new for the fall 2014 freshmen admits. In prior years the bar was set at 2.0 GPA.

I believe University of Washington is the same/similar to Berkeley. Though I heard a rumor that UW admits a few number of students as guaranteed into the BA Computer Science program.

Thanks for the reply! I was trying to look it up on their website but they didn’t explain it.
