I’m a first year computer science major here, and I’m curious about the benefits of doing a combined CS/Business major. What type of jobs/coops does someone with this major get, compared to someone with a straight CS major? What are the pros, cons etc
A lot of the overlap is in the financial sector working with trading algorithms. I’ve also heard of a lot of jobs that would fall under “Business Data Analytics”, which would be a mix of business knowledge, data science, and using some programming to put it all together.
It all depends on what you want to do when it comes to pros and cons. Generally speaking, the only objective comparison that stands out to me is that business has more high earning potential but CS will offer more stability and consistent high pay.
Why did you get the idea in the first place? What sparked your interest? That may help people here elaborate.
@PengsPhils @jamsman1157 I know this is a bit off topic, but can one double major from uMass in ECE/EE/CSE and Computer Science?
UMass was my safety, but I got into the Honors College as an out of state student with a generous scholarship, and now I’m seriously considering it
@artetc You’re probably better off asking on the UMass forum, but generally you would want to find a combined/dual program, not a double major, which will be two separate degrees. In engineering, a double major usually isn’t possible unless you want to be in school for longer.
Having google’d around, it looks like they actually reverse the terminology, but do seem to have a double/dual major program. I can’t really find a good link to it, only mentions in certain colleges.

Thanks for the help @PengsPhils
I’ll ask in other forums
