Hi all
This is my second post. My son is interested in computers, He received a 5 on his comp sci AP test and he loves to program. He is more interested in software than hardware. Although we have looked at RIT and are looking at Boston and Purdue, we are most interested in Ohio schools. We are considering Ohio State, Ohio University, Miami, Cincinnati, and Toledo. He is looking for a school that has a good computer program not an afterthought. He has a 3.7 gpa, currently a 27 on act but is taking again in September, In the marching band, president of Flash club, And years of volunteering at an animal rescue center. Any opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks
David

What about Case Western? They’re really known for engineering.

Hi Dave,

First off, even though I am a tOSU grad, I am not a computer sci. major, so please take my word with a grain of salt…

As far as I know, academically, Ohio State has the highest rating/ranking on Computer Science program in the state of California. Besides RIT (private, engineering-centered) & Purdue (public, engineering-centered as well) that you mentioned above, I would say that Ohio State should be your #1 pick in terms of concentrating on Computer Sci. major (FYI, Purdue #20, Boston #47, Case Western #63 & Ohio State #28 based on USNWR ranking). However, when it comes the overall value (Best Value by Princeton Review 2011) and broad range of disiplines for freshman/sophomore non-major GECs (general elective courses), Ohio State leads all other competiting institutions that you listed above. In addition, Princeton Review also noted the up-and-coming academic status of OSU as of late. Top quality facilites on campus included but not limited to the state-of-the-art main library, student recreation center (RPAC), new student union and many others… are really second-to-none in the nation. In addition, Under the current leadership of President Gordon Gee (former President of Brown & Vanderbilt), the school is making thrive and in an upswing in terms of overall academic prestige and reputation. Also, your son’s profile/stats fit perfectly so far as OSU admission is concerned. Therefore, I believe that attending tOSU as an in-stater for your son would be the most bang for the buck. Last but not least, really, who in the state of Ohio does not cheer for the almighty buckeye in all sports these days?? Go Bucks!!! lol~
