Is carnegie mellon's acceptance rate lower for computer science than for any other major?

CMU SCS has about an 8% accept rate compared to about 30% overall acceptance rate for CMU.

[Carnegie Mellon Admission | Admission Statistics](http://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/undergraduate-admission-statistics)

correction: if you divide the total numbers it looks like a 19% overall acceptance rate … much lower than the published 30% I found on a college info website!

its definitely much harder to be accepted in CS than any other major at cmu

CMU’s overall accp. rate is listed as 30% because most applicants apply to more than one CMU college. The 30% rate is calculated by dividing the total # of admitted students by the total number of applicants (with double counting in either figure). Thus, the 30% number isn’t an accurate depiction of the competitiveness of any CMU college aside from DC.

SCS is by far the most competitive school at CMU. It’s really a crapshoot, even for qualified candidates, so I’d suggest applying to less competitive schools as back-ups (CIT, IS, DC, etc).

Actually, CFA- Drama is more competitive than SCS.
