computer science at claremont mckena?

I am interested in pursuing computer science as my undergrad major however I can’t find any info about CMC’s comp sci program. Could someone please comment about the overall program, is it offered as a major? how good is it? can I take comp sci classes at the other connected claremont schools?

CMC does not have a CS major, although its math department does offer a limited number of mostly lower level CS courses.

Realistically, if you want to take a significant number of upper level CS courses within the consortium, you would have to take them at Pomona and/or Harvey Mudd. A CMC student who wants to major in CS needs to do it as an off-campus major through Pomona or Harvey Mudd. Or just apply to Pomona and/or Harvey Mudd and study CS natively at one of those schools if you get admitted.

Take a look at this article from the CMC Forum:

Hi @HighnessHKPK ,

I’m going to Claremont McKenna this fall to study computer science. I had the same questions you had a while back when I was deciding so I’ll try and help as much as I can. During admitted students day, our guides told us that you can major in computer science off campus at either Pomona or Harvey Mudd. I became quite hesitant once I heard this because I didn’t want to have to take a major at another school but after talking to other students who are doing the same thing I’ve been reassured it’s a seamless process. it’s as simple as declaring your major at the school you want during orientation and getting your advisors switched to the one at the school you’ll be majoring in. It’s amazing how we can take a full on major at another Claremont School and have access to all their amazing resources while still attending CMC. And apparently getting classes is easy as well so no problems in that regard. To answer your other question, if you take computer science at Harvey Mudd you’ll have gone to the #1 engineering school for undergrads only. I think that speaks for itself.
For Pomona college, I think this article below sheds some light at how recruiters view grads from Pomona and the Claremont Colleges in general.

Hope to see you on campus,
