I’m a prospective freshman to Michigan and I applied to the college of Engineering. I was wondering if it would be possible to do computer science at CoE and Economics at LSA at the same time (double majoring). How long would this take?
Thanks

Do CS in LSA instead of in CoE if you want to do econ in LSA. It’ll simplify your degree requirements, and the CS curriculum is basically the same.
^The problem is, I already applied to CoE
Is it easy to transfer out?
yes, it’s very easy to transfer internally from CoE to LSA. just talk to an adviser once you get to campus. you have nothing to worry about
Haha, I had the same problem - I’m planning on majoring or double-majoring in either CS or economics, and I couldn’t decide whether to apply to CoE or LSA. Decided to apply to LSA, and I’m happy with that decision - I think it makes more sense to double-major within LSA than do a dual degree (you’d still have to do all the engineering requirements if you went to CoE).
Is the CS at LSA a BA or a BS?
BA - but make zero difference to employers, if that is what you’d be concerned about.
Yeah see that may be true, but my parents are Indian and well, a BA is not the same as a BS to them.
(Sorry, I’m not like that and I mean no insult, but my parents are just like that)
So would it be possible CS at CoE and Economics at LSA?
Yes, it’s possible to do CS in CoE and econ in LSA. I highly recommend that you just do them both in LSA, though. Dealing with 2 colleges presents logistical issues, and there is virtually no upside to doing CS in CoE. It would be a wise investment to simply convince your parents to let you do the double major now, instead of having to deal with administrative issues with the colleges down the road. It may help your case if you inform your parents that the dual degree would require you to pay CoE’s tuition (more expensive) compared to LSA tuition.
The degree conferred for CS in LS&A would actually a B.S., so your parents will indeed be cool with it!
Per U-M:

LSA degree is a Bachelor of Science (Computer Science)
Engineering degree is a Bachelor of Science Engineering (Computer Science)
Of course CS is a Bachelor of Science degree, whether from LSA or CoE.
All right, thanks a lot for all of your help
