Computer Science at Fordham

I was just wondering about the quality of the computer science program at Fordham. I cant seem to find any real details on it other than the university website.

I dont know, frankly. I know its there and I know they are much stronger in math and science than people realize (and TOUGH!). I recommend you dig on the website and find faculty who teach in that department and ping them. I am sure they will respond to you. We pinged faculty for my D in some areas before she went to Fordham and they all responded and were most helpful.

Good luck.

most classes are technical from what i hear. in addition, most professors have horrible accents. that's what i can tell you so far about the comp sci program.

if you go on oasis, and click on Course Catalog (you don't need an user/password), then on Computer Information Science you will find out the classes they offer plus a brief description of them. Granted those courses aren't offered every semester, or every year for that matter, but it gives you an idea of the course work required.

I'm a computer science major there.

Some instructors are good, others are horrible - like with most other colleges. However, it seems one rather poor instructor teaches most computer science classes.I haven't learned a single thing from being in his class and wanted to transfer or attend the other campus solely because he teaches most computer science classes.

It also seems to be heavily rooted in Unix systems despite that everyone else runs on Windows. There is a lot of hands-on coding, which I do enjoy. Though the students in computer science majors (this may be at all colleges, though) seem very pretentious and have an "I know more about C++ than you." demeanor.

The lectures, however, are extremely boring an uninformative. It seems the textbook the instructor chose to teach this semester is riddled with mistakes and syntax errors, which makes studying from it rather pointless as it teaches incorrect things.

There are good instructors and you can learn a lot if you get one, and the class can be enjoyable. My only advice is to visit ratemyprofessor.com and pay close attention to the ratings...they're quite accurate.
