Computer Science at UC Davis (CoLS and CoE)

I just checked up with UC Davis and it seems for CS Major there’s actually two college offering it?

College of Letters and Sciences offers Computer Science (BS)

College of Engineering offers Computer Science and Engineering (BS) and Computer Engineering (BS)

Besides from the courses they study,is there any major difference between them?UC Davis told me that the College of Letters and Sciences that offers Computer Science (BS) is a non-selective major.I thought CS is a selective major almost anywhere?

Oh, I just asked that question today and here’s what the CS person said:

Basically, in the college of letters and science (I got in this one), you have an elective. So you can choose, aside from learning software engineer or something, a class like biology or creative writing or something.
In the college of engineering, you are basically assigned courses.

My understanding from another thread is that COE focuses more on hardware and CS in L&S focuses on software.

Here is the old thread the person who asked the question was referred to: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-davis/1155853-difference-between-cs-and-cse.html

CS - software.( web apps )

CSE- Hardware. + software ( operating system. phone hardware companies.
