Computer Science at UMd - weigh in with Drexel

Mine is debating between Drexel and UMd for CS. I realize it is comparison of apples and oranges - the traditional Uni experience with the co-op style at Drexel.

I am interested in hearing if anyone is aware of quality in teaching between these 2 schools. Also does the size of UMd and the fact that CS is becoming a crowded major make it harder to get into your choice of courses as well as leverage of resources? We have the honors college at Drexel, we do not have honors at UMd, but admitted to the FIRE program. Thanks for any insights and thoughts.

I went to Drexel (admittedly a long time ago) and my D is graduating from UMD in May (not CS). The FIRE program is a great opportunity. I work in DC in the CS field and you can’t throw a stick in DC without hitting someone who is looking to hire Computer Scientists. The Brendon Iribe Center ( https://iribe.cs.umd.edu/ ) is expected to open this year. Unless Drexel is less expensive, I would pick UMD. Hopefully some actual CS students from UMD will reply.

Thanks @SoofDad . Cost-wise they are both working out to be the same at this point - given some scholarships at both places, UMd being out of state. So we can safely leave cost out of the picture.

Pick Maryland.
