Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows why Warren is said to be the best college for computer science majors out of the six colleges at UCSD? I'm curious about why in terms of GE requirements, not in terms of things like being closest to the computer labs. Do the GE requirements overlap with the CS major requirements or something? Will it lead to a faster graduation? Thank you for your time!

It’s because you’ll likely have the least number of GEs to take compared to the other colleges. Take a look at this link.

http://www.ucsd.edu/_files/6collegescompared.pdf

So you’re saying it has nothing to do with my major, it’s just that out of all six colleges, Warren just has the least GE requirements and you’ll graduate fastest…?

^Not exactly. Engineering majors have less GEs to take at Warren compared to non-engineering majors (it’s just the way they have their GEs). But also depending on your major and college, some of the GEs can also have some overlap with your major requirements. Does that make sense?

Really? I’ve never heard of majors and colleges correlating, do you know how I could get more information about this? I always thought that GEs had no correlation to your major and everyone has to take the same amount. So do you believe Warren would be better for a CS major as opposed to Sixth College?

(Thanks for your help, by the way!)

Not everybody has the same amount of GEs to take. Each college has a list of requirements and some of those requirements can overlap with major ones. All the general information is in the link I sent you. It looks like you would have less GEs to take at Warren. If you want to know for certain, you can check the details of each college’s GE requirements on their website and compare them to your major requirements.

Alright, thank you so much for your help!
