Computer Science CAS vs CoE

I am applying to Cornell currently in CAS as a computer science major because I think CAS suits my ambitions more. Is there any noticeable difference in admissions between the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering for computer science majors?

One provides a Bachelor’s of Science (or BS) degree, and the other provides Bachelor of Arts (or BA) degree

some people in the working world may have a bias in favor of a BS over BA, it’s somewhat commonly believed that BS is more technical and that BA is more Art like… whether or not it’s true… it’s perception you can not control.

At Cornell the CS major requirements are exactly the same… the difference is in the colleges you apply to…
in the engineering school, you have to take special versions of some math and chem classes… as well as take some physics… and in CAS you need to take a foreign language, and non engineering math

They are both selective, my guess is one’s best chance goes with whichever actually “fits” you
best. IMO the people reading your application will be looking to see if you belong in the college you are applying to. Among other things.

If you fit best in CAS, major notwithstanding -given CAS distribution and course requirements, and alternative major choices if you bail from CS - apply to CAS. That will be your best chance. Because you truly belong there most. I think.
