@newtechwiz Even though the GPA is a bit low, your SAT is pretty great! Depending on what you’re majoring in, I would say you have a pretty good chance of getting in!
Your weighted GPA (idk if your UC GPA is much lower) blows the avg admitted freshman (4.04) out of the water. I’d say don’t worry about it. Your SAT is only ~100 less than the avg admitted freshman.
I have to respectfully disagree with @Lost4Words. Your UC GPA is a lot lower (3.5 vs 4.04) than the avg admitted freshman. The avg admitted freshman SAT is in the 1800s somewhere, can’t remember exactly.
Sorry man. You’re gonna have to cross your fingers alot. GPA is more important than SAT
I was admitted as CS in 2014. Your SAT is exactly the same as mine and you have a better UC GPA than I did. I think your chances are pretty good as long as your essays were good.
Intended: Bio Major
alternative major: Chemistry
UC GPA:3.85
SAT: 1610
Comp ACT: 23
Lots of extracurricular activities as well as volunteer hours
Well written personal statement: revised by almost all of my English teachers until couldn’t be revised furthermore.
@ghi54 If you want me to be really honest, your SAT and your ACT scores are kind of low. Science majors are extremely popular in the UCs, especially because they are research institutions. But your ECs and your essay play a pretty significant part in the admissions process, because the UCs use a holistic process to judge applications. Long story short, I personally think you have a shot if your essays and ECs are good!
You’ll be fine as long as you’re a decent writer. My stats were lower than yours and I got accepted for CS as an Asian female. And as a crazier note, I was waitlisted at University of Chicago whose average SAT/GPA is 2100/4.0UW or so. You never know; some colleges may find like-able qualities in you that other colleges didn’t.
intended:Computer Science
alternate: Mechanical Engineering
UC GPA: 3.75
SAT:1610
ACT:25
(I’m awful at test taking)
I have a ton of EC’s including YMCA summer camps, Leadership, Robotics, Key Club, Stage Tech light design and programming(100’s of hours), 150+ volunteer hours, etc
My essays were well written in my opinion, revised multiple times by my English teacher who runs the department.
I think the only big problem in my application are my test scores, be honest I can take it.
@sebrock Even if you have bad test scores, you can still get into great places! My friend had bad test scores but a kick-ass GPA and ECs, and she ended up getting into most of the UCs she’s applied to so far, with the exception of being wait listed at LA. What I’m trying to say is that I honestly think test scores are everything. If you have great ECs, a good GPA, and great personal statements, you have a good chance of getting in. Good luck!
@sakurameow honestly probably not. The nursing here is competitive 1000+ applicants each year and they only open up to 70-77 spots each year? Only like a 4% chance to get admitted to their nursing program(said that on their site). Also your SAT scores matter you have to get at least 500 something in each section. I wanted to be a nurse too but I checked UCI’s website and didn’t realize all the stars until I already submitted my nurse essay too lol. But honestly your nursing hours are good if you put that in the application then maybe but at the same time these other 900+ applicants could’ve had more. If you don’t get in to nursing then you’ll be switched to undeclared like me if you don’t have an alternate.
but @Lost4Words you have a pretty good chance at getting in. Like another poster said your GPA seems to matter more this year than your SAT score. My UC gpa is 3.91 and my SAT score was way lower than yours. I’m guessing your UC gpa range would be in the 3.9x-4.1x
Thanks everyone! I ended up being wait listed and will wait until then to decide what college I will be going to. In the meantime, I will be submitting my SIR to UCSC. Again, thanks everyone!
