Hello, I’ve always been interested in taking a class in computer science but was not able to fit the class into my senior schedule this year. I want to still take some course in programming, even though it will be outside of school. I often hear of students my age taking classes at local community colleges. Are these classes usually in the summer or during the school year? Are they available for high school students? Are they offered in computer science? How would I go about trying to sign up for one of these? Sorry if some of the questions are common sense to some of the people on here, I am totally ignorant about the topic
Maybe it would be a good idea to talk to one of your guidance counselors about opportunities like this that may exist.
@JustOneDad good idea, I plan on doing this I just didn’t want to walk into his office not knowing anything about the opportunities in general
You might want to visit the website of the local community college. That could help you learn something before the meeting.
Check if your school allows you to do dual enrollment. I have been taking computer science courses at my local community college since sophomore year. Some schools will even pay the fees for the course.
@AcceptableName how has your experience been taking those classes? Are you the only high school student? How often are your classes? Is it a lot of additional work along with your highschool commitments?
@streetking18 The courses I have taken are all online. I just read a chapter and then write the code for the assignments. But there are options for campus courses. I just didn’t take them because online is more flexible. Usually there is about 2 high school student in a course. Personally, the school I attend is the easiest school in Michigan, so it is not too much additional work.
