Computer Science Classes at Community College

Hello,

I would like to major in Computer Science. And I was wondering if you guys know community colleges, preferably online where I can take CS 61A, CS61B, CS61C, and CS0. Thank you all in advance.

You should probably take them at Cal… you’ll need a strong foundation if you’re planning to major in CS, and quite frankly most CC classes do not measure up to the pace and rigor if Cal classes, especially if it’s an online course. And that makes them hard to find articulations for. I’m not sure if the department would even let you count CC classes like that, assuming you’re already a student here.

CS61B is the easiest to find though I don’t know the list off the top of my head. 61A/C are hard to find, and CS70 you won’t find an equivalent for. You can check for equivalents at schools near you on assist.org.

If you’re just looking for online options, CS61AS is the self-paced scheme version of 61A, so you might be able to do that completely remotely. All of the lower div classes tend to webcast lectures, btw, so if there are conflicts with those you might get away with watching them online instead of attending, but you’ll probably still need to go to labs or something.

Is there a particular reason you’re looking for CC versions of these courses? I could understand trying to get random GE requirements out of the way, but major requirements?

Use http://www.assist.org to find matching courses. Known CCs:

CS 61A: Laney College
CS 61B: some CCs, sometimes as more than one course
CS 61C: Diablo Valley College
EE 40: some CCs
EE 20, CS 70: probably not available at CCs

If you are a CC student looking to transfer, it is advantageous to take them before transfer, if available, so that you have fewer “catch up” courses after transfer. If you are currently a student at Berkeley, just take them at Berkeley.
