Computer Science, Computer Eng. Chances?

Hello Everyone,

I am applying for colleges this year. I am interested in computer science, computer engineering, and mechanical OR electrical engineering.

I am considering many colleges, including the following:

Purdue
RPI
CMU
UC's: LA, Berkeley, Davis, San Diego, Santa Barbara
Cornell
Northwestern
Rice
Arizona State University
Stanford
Washington Univ. in St. Louis
University of Illinois (Chicago & Urbana Champaign)
University of Chicago
Princeton

My unweighted GPA is 3.7 (our school does not release weighted).

I have taken the following AP/Honors classes:

AP Computer Science A: A, A (4 on AP test)
Pre-calculus Honors: B, A
Physics Honors (our school has no AP Physics): A, A
American Lit. Honors: B,B
Chem. Honors: B, B

at Stanford, I took:

AP Calculus A (1 semester): A

This year, I am taking the following AP/Honors classes:

AP Calculus B/C
AP Biology
AP Microeconomics
Spanish 4 Honors

My SAT score is 2140, and I am going to take Math2 and Physics SAT2's very soon.

I have been on the school's badminton team every year until now (9, 10, 11), and I have been on varsity for 10th and 11th grade.

I am in the following clubs:

National Honor Society (10th, 11th)
DECA (Treasurer)
Robotics (9th, 10th)

Outside of school, I am an Eagle Scout and I am an accomplished musician (I have won first and second place in several competitions, and have advanced to the final round of other competitions).

I am almost done with a research project involving programming and music. I am submitting it to a conference soon.

I have over 150 community service hours.

So what do all of you think about my chances? Do you recommend any colleges I would have a good chance of getting into?

Thanks for your help!

Do you have cost constraints? Be aware that many public schools do not give much financial aid to out of state students. Put “cost of attendance” and “financial aid estimator” in each school’s web site search box to get an idea.

UCs and CSUs use a GPA calculated like this:
[CSUMentor - Plan for College - High School Students - GPA Calculator](<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU)

Berkeley has a full ride Drake Scholarship for the top mechanical engineering students.

If your interest is primarily in CS, note that Berkeley has a CS major in Letters and Science as well as an EECS major in Engineering. L&S is generally thought to be easier to get admitted to.

Which is your state of residency?

Other schools that may be of interest:

Lower out of state list price:

University of Minnesota
Cal Poly SLO
Virginia Tech

Admissions-safety level schools local to Silicon Valley computer companies (i.e. easier job finding if majoring in CS):

UCSC
SJSU
