Computer Science/Computer Engineering

Hi~Is everyone happy in these majors (CS and Computer Engineering) or do you find some kids switching around?

I'm a happy CECS (Computer Engineering & Computer Science) major, but I do see some kids switching around. I strongly believe more people could be happy doing CS, but the way it's taught currently alienates a lot of potential good programmers. [That's why I'm thinking about independently teaching some computer classes this summer, with an emphasis on programming. Anyone Can Code.]

Is there a lot of programming involved? My son is o.k. with programming but is really more of a hardware person (likes circuit design). Is CECS the right program or is EE more correct? How much programming is there in CECS? Also, how was it for you to find related summer internships?

To intelliot: Congratulations on teaching computer classes this summer! It is a great idea.

There are not a lot of jobs out there with circuit design. It's fun to learn to build things in the lab but most engineering jobs use a lot of computer software to help do/create hardware things. One example, if something goes wrong with your computer, most likely you take a computer board out and swap something new in. I don't think it makes a lot of economics sense to fix anything anymore.
