Hey guys, I'm an incoming freshman at UIUC with intentions on becoming a computer science major. I have no prior programming experience though. For my first CS class, my advisor put me in CS 102- Little Bits to Big Ideas (which is more or less the same as Intro to Programming which is CS 103). My question is would be okay to jump to CS 173- Discrete Structures in the Spring term, or be safe and go to CS 125- Intro to Computer Science, because I have no idea. I am on level with all my math and physical sciences, I just don't want to fall behind on my most important courses though. Thanks!

I was under the assumption that you have to take CS 125 for a computer science major (through Engineering at least). But I would take CS 125 regardless.

I thought so too, so I don’t understand why they put me in another class. Should I talk to my advisor about it or something and try to switch out for it? Or double up on the two?

If you don’t understand something about
then talking to them would be a good idea.

If you are a computer science major there should be no reason you are taking CS102 instead of CS 125. I would definitely talk to your advisor, but they tend to be not as helpful as you want them to be most of the times.

Thank you altair22, I will definitely talk to them as soon as I can.

Altair, aren’t you an incoming freshman? You might want to actually experience an advising session at U of I prior to stating that they’re “not as helpful as you want them to be most of the time”. Just saying.

Just what i heard from a lot of people thats all.

Ahh. Gotta love hearsay.
