Hi there, I'm a high school senior getting ready to apply to colleges and at this point MHC is one of my top three choices (along with Barnard and Bryn Mawr). Are there any computer science majors out there who could provide some insight into the quality of the compsci department beyond what is stated on the MHC website (professors, workload, classroom experience, etc.)? I'm having trouble gathering information because computer science is definitely not one of the more popular majors at MHC, or any of the other LACs that I'm planning to apply to, for that matter. One of my reservations about attending a liberal arts college is that only a relatively small portion of the required classes are for your major; I can't decide if that's a good thing for me or not. I love learning and I believe a liberal arts education is a valuable asset, but at the same time I would like to get as much computer technology/programming experience as possible so that I can feel confident in my abilities when I (hopefully) attend grad school.
