Computer Science Direct Admission Appeal responses?

@JohnDope Have not heard yet, sadly, but committed to Cal Poly SLO last week. It just became clear after another UW campus visit on Monday, that it doesn’t have the right “vibe” (thankfully, since he hasn’t gotten in, yet - felt kinda low-energy, disconnected) and he needs to leave the state for CA and be near his sis. The learn by doing with profs right away sealed the deal for us. He’s SO happy he just made a decision - I think the one he wanted all along. We’re in Hawaii now and he’s wearing his Cal Poly T-shirt and getting tons of awesome walk-by comments. Finally feeling settled and happy - able to mentally move-in. Good luck to you! I think you’ll get in!

@tkg2023 well I’m glad it all worked out for you guys either way. I’m sure he will enjoy it there and not worrying about the appeal must be a huge relief. Thank you for the luck and have fun in Hawaii!

@pdxtigermom Thank you. I might be able to get in later but it’s a risk and I may as well just go to Santa Clara in that case.

@Missit That’s a very strong appeal letter. I hope everything works out for your daughter.

@JohnDope Students like you with determination and dedication will succeed anywhere you choose to go. I just reread the DA process and feel that it would be no problem getting in later especially for students like you with high stats. If you choose to go to UW, then I’’d be more than happy to get to know you. My son will probably commit to UW too.

Yes, I think @JohnDope will get in since he was not in the mailing list last Friday. Happy for him!

JohnDope — please send an email to the director (who is a very fair officer) of Admissions at UW, stating your basic stats and asking him to look at your appeal if possible. You shall also express that you are actually attending UW CS once admitted. You will get in, for sure.

I just heard back today on my appeal and the appeal was successful, I am now in computer science at UW. I plan to commit sometime tonight. Thank you all for helping me through this process with your encouragement! @Bebu19 @tkg2023 @pdxtigermom @Missit

@pdxtigermom I’d be happy to get to know you as well. Out of curiosity, is your son enrolled in the Honors program at UW as well?

@seattleUW2 The director of admissions did end up looking at all the cs appeals and I guess it all worked out for me at least.

congradulations! if you cant get in who else?

@JohnDope Huge congrats!
My son can not do the honors since he will be a dual-degree student with music performance major. My D is a sophomore at UW. She was trying to do pre-med and music performance dual-degree plus honors and eventually dropped the honors already.
My son hasn’t committed to UW yet. USC just increased his scholarship amount today and the remaining tuition is $10,000 and CMU’s remaining tuition is $25,000 right now which is about the same we would have to pay at UW. He has a $6,600 P&G scholarship and a $5,000 music scholarship at UW.

@JohnDope
Congrats. You deserve it.

Hey I was in the exact same situation and have been following this thread. My petition just got approved today as well. The director of admissions is really cool for personally reviewing each appeal. Have you signed up for an a&o appointment? The major on on record wont update on that form even though it did on freshman status.

@typhoonshores Congrats to you too!

@typhoonshores can I ask what is your stats?

@JohnDope Congrats to you and @typhoonshores - your stats are stellar. If they denied you, that would have been so unfortunate for the whole system, really. My S18 did not get accepted on appeal which was apparently sent last Friday but he missed it on his phone until a couple of days ago. It’s all good though - just wanted to say good job and best of luck to you!

@Bebu19 2 years running start at Bellevue College. 4.0 GPA in high school and college. I have finished the transfer equivalent of all the pre requisites for cs. I was only able to submit the last quarter of that for my appeal however. Also I had begun tutoring at Bellevue College. I am quite pleased to have may petition approved.

@typhoonshores
Can I ask if you need to submit your SAT? And what is it? I just want to know for my future references. Thx

@Bebu19 I dont think it is required but I did. I only took it once and got 690 math and 620 reading.
