Computer Science Direct Admit

I applied for CS as well but I’m listed as pre science in the Arts and Sciences… 35 ACT, 4.0 UW GPA

I’m an International who applied for CSc but was offered pre science in the Arts and Sciences.

Stats:

2300+ SAT
All A+ grades throughout high schools
Loads of ECs (Intl and National)
Good Essays (Above average)

Really disappointed :confused:

@halcyonalcyone‌ Are you in state? I think the majority of applicants who were directly admitted were from Washington, and I have never heard of international students receiving direct admission @determined2300‌ so that may be the biggest reason. You guys both seem capable of getting in through regular admissions. Just curious, how can you know that you’re essays were “Above average”.

@determined2300‌

You might have gotten in CS. It is showing pre science for most people who applied for CS.

Don’t be disappointed… I don’t think I got accepted and UW is my #1. Be thankful you at least got accepted.

@determined2300‌ Why are you disappointed ? You got into UW , be thankful that you were notified with good news.

Actually after digging up some past threads it appears to be normal to be listed as pre science for now, so I still have hope :slight_smile:

Oh and yes, I am from in-state.

My son’s unofficial transcript says College: Arts &Sciences, Major: Computer Science

I think this is indicative of a Direct Admit offer?

So I assume if my major is listed as “pre science” I didn’t get DA for CS?
(I live in CA, didn’t get a letter yet. 3.91 unweighted GPA, 2170 SAT, 33 ACT. Good activities in CS related areas)

I just wanted to clear something up for the people going into computer science at UW. Unlike most colleges, the computer science school is classified as a liberal art, rather than engineering. For that reason, it says school of arts and sciences for you guys. Refer to the following link:

http://www.tacoma.uw.edu/institute-technology/computer-science-systems

Additionally, the degree requirements for CS are heavily elective based, and require much less math and physical science than counterparts at other universities.

http://www.cs.washington.edu/public_files/ugrad/curriculum/CS_reqs_au13.pdf

When you guys look at your unofficial transcripts at the SAT scores section, does it show the writing score. Mine only shows the verbal and math scores. If this is the case, does UW disregard the writing score completely.

@TheNotoriousB‌ It shows up like that for me too. Maybe they still look at the SAT on the 1600 scale by disregarding writing? Not sure. Sucks because writing was my highest section haha

its also says that for me unofficial transcript says College: Arts &Sciences, Major: Computer Science, my transcript loaded this morning and I checked the mail and got my golden envelope! Im in! I guess the transcript thing is true , not sure though >:D<

What’re your stats

@loganmr97 my stats?

Yeah I just want to know since you got into comp sci direct. Congrats!

@loganmr97 oh… thankyou! I didn’t realize that I got in direct. but here you go!
gpa: 3.67
sat: 1700
AP: 4
Running start
Worked very hard on the essay, maybe that’s why
currently in Ap Computer Science :slight_smile: anything else you wanna know?

My unofficial transcript says pre science, not computer science. Did I not get directly admitted into the CS department?

@sukeeni1997‌ Weird. I have higher stats and have taken a lot of computer science with a 3.96 GPA. My essay was very good but not computer science focused. Congrats tho!

@loganmr97 my essay wasnt computer science focused at all… im really not sure about what i got to be honest! thank you though!

@wiifixp‌ @pleaseyeezus‌

For some people, just getting into a university is not enough. I want to attend UW, but not in a major I’m not interested in. I’m not even guaranteed to be in CSc next year. What if they don’t have enough places in the major at all?

There is a big question mark. And I don’t want to gamble with my future. Sure, the campus life may be great! But if I’m not passionate about it, I’m not excited.
