I’m from Cal Poly Pomona and I’m current a Graphic Design student, but I am thinking about also double majoring I Computer Science. My other choice would be Marketing, but I really like coding and working with computers. I’m not really into the idea of minors and would prefer to go all or nothing. So should I do it? Will it be too difficult to handle more than one major if I have Computer Science? Does CompSci and Graphic go well together? (i.e. will employers be attracted to it).
Thank you so much.
Having more than one major rarely helps in the job market, but this is one of those combinations that I think could actually be pretty beneficial. CS is very good on its own. The Graphic Design aspect might appeal to any employer working in areas like human-centered design and human-computer interaction (for instance, creating graphical interfaces for physiotherapeutic or neurological rehab, or even for entertainment purposes) or CAD software/modeling, to name a couple. Take my comments with a grain of salt–I’m not an employer and don’t have much experience in this area in particular. I study engineering and could see the combination being interesting/useful but don’t have any experience to back up that opinion.
I think you should try it if you are interested in computer science. You can always drop the second major if you change your mind, but having knowledge of computer science is always valuable.
