Computer Science/Engineering schools with good acceptance rates

I'm thinking of applying to UCSD or UCI. Though, after looking at their GPA and SAT acceptance, I got kinda discouraged. Anyways, I'll still probably apply to one of them, but I've also been looking into Cal Poly Pomona.

The ideal college for me is urban or suburban; I'd like to be near a gymnastic facility.

So, what other colleges should I look in to? My grades aren't too bad but aren't great either. I'm a sophomore with a total of 3 B's (1 from freshman year, 2 from 1st semester soph year; granted one of the B's was in an AP class). I've yet to study or take the SAT, but my PSAT scores also seem pretty bad. I average around 500 for CR and W and around 600 for math (took PSAT around october 2013). The scores are much better than when I took it during freshman year though, averaging around 450 in all subjects.

I've also done no community service yet because I don't like the atmosphere of the community service clubs in my school; however, I do go out a lot and am in track.

CP Pomona is a good school, another few to consider for CS, Chico, SJSU and maybe UCSC.

Do your best in school and the standardized tests. In another year you’ll have a better feel for where you fit - academically.

On the community service front - don’t try to accumulate meaningless hours. Engage in your high school community and look for ways to demonstrate leadership.

Alright, thanks. I looked into UCSC and feel like I have a better chance there than UCSD. I’ll also add SJSU into my list of colleges I want to look into. I guess right now I’m looking towards UCSC, CPP, SJSU, and SDSU.

CSUs other than CPSLO won’t consider ECs or community service; they admit by calculating the [CSU eligibility index](<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU), using GPA as [calculated here](<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU).

Admission thresholds can vary by major. SJSU reveals the thresholds of recent admissions cycles:
http://info.sjsu.edu/static/admission/impaction.html</a>
For example, for different majors, frosh admission to SJSU for fall 2014 thresholds using the SAT were:
3750 - computer engineering
4550 - computer science
3400 - software engineering
(note: for out-of-state students, the threshold was the one listed for the major or 3502, whichever was higher)

Your PSAT scores are a possible factor in your choice of career and college. Usually an engineering student would want to have a 700 on the SAT in Math. A 600 makes you borderline for flunking out of the major. Three B’s in three semesters of high school is hardly promising unless the rest of the grades are A’s.

Wow, I had no idea SJSU was so competitive.

Yea, my PSAT is pretty cruddy. I’ll be sure to take classes and study over summer. The B’s I got were 1 B from English 1A, 1 B in chemistry, and 1 B in WHAP. All of the other classes, I got an A (took physics freshman year).

I’m not sure if it matters, but I took biology over summer at a college and got a C (hated that course, but had to take it because it was required). Now, biology isn’t required, and the C is on my transcript which kinda lowered my GPA. Is there anyway I could take it out of my transcript or no?

Consider taking both the SAT and ACT, because you might do significantly better on one than the other.

You cannot get rid of the C grade, but it should be eligible for the +1 honors point at UC and CSU for being a college course (if at a community college, you can verify at http://doorways.ucop.edu ).
