I'm starting my freshman year at Southern Polytechnic State University, and I intend on transferring to Georgia Tech after this year is over (I tried to get into tech as a freshman but was waitlisted and then denied).I scored a 5 on the Calc BC exam, so Calc I and II are out of the way, and I know what classes that I have to take to transfer. I still have a couple of questions though.
After I take all of the required AND recommended courses, I'll still have one extra class available to take second semester. Would Tech prefer that I take an extra math class required for my major, or would they prefer that I take some SS or humanities?
Also, what else can I do to really beef up my resume? Do they look at extracurriculars for transfer students like they do for freshman? Any suggestions or comments are really appreciated here. I refuse to be denied two years in a row!

I’d suggest transferring your sophomore year unless GA Tech has some kind of special arrangement.

Here in California people who try transferring after one year generally are not accepted at all. There is a priority transfer admission for people entering their new universities as juniors. Your high school grades, SAT scores, etc. will still be looked at as a freshman transfer compared to the sophomore transfer where only your college grades matter.

Nobody at Tech (with exception to their Ivan Allen “liberal arts college” and maybe their college of management) cares about humanities; engineering students only take those classes at Tech because they are a state requirement. Go for the extra math classes.
I would recommend participating in research or doing something to differentiate yourself from other applicants, e.g. participating in a fencing team, playing in a school band/orchestra, working for student media
