Does anyone have experience/knowledge about any of the following summer programs? I know the basics, including timing and costs. I'd really like experiential information. Would you recommend the program? Was it worth the expense? Etc. And, do you recommend any other programs?

Adelphi - Computer Game Design & Programming Pre-College Summer Program

Carnegie Mellon - National High School Game Academy

Digital Media Academy -

Drexel U. Computing Academy (DUCA)

Emagination Computer Camps - Game Design

I.D. Tech - Programming for XBox 360

RPI - Computer Game Development Academy

WPI - Frontiers - Interactive Media & Game Development

S, grade 10, did digital media academy in 2012 and id tech camp in 2010. At DMA, took 1 wk in maya character art and 1 wk in unreal engine game creation. Had fun, but I acually still haven’t seen his copy of his game, so not sure how much he did. ID tech camp did 2D game creation Multimedia fusion. Fun for him, but grasped concepts and was creating levels far ahead of what they were planning on originally teaching.

This year applying to COSMOS game design at UC Santa Cruz (deadline was 2/22/13), or possibly Carnegie Mellon’s game design. There is a write up of the Carnegie Mellon experience on the webpage.

The problem with learning MAYA is that it’s not like we have a copy of the software at home, and it is expensive. The unreal engine software is free, so you could just download it and teach yourself. Also free are software such as game salad

Thanks for the info on ID Tech and DMA. I believe COSMOS is only for CA students - we are not in CA.

I think MAYA has a free student edition that you might be able to download (I don’t know how good it is). I had gotten a call from Autodesk asking for DS bc they were following up on his demonstrated interest online!! Had to let them know he was a minor and not going to be purchasing. I will pass the info to DS regarding unreal engine and game salad.

There is also one more free software, but I my computer is being repaired so I can’t look it up. Maybe it’s unity?

Cosmos is available for OOS with an OOS tuition

Thanks, I will look further into Cosmos, but I guess for next year since this year’s application deadline has passed.

Anyone else with any experience with the programs listed in post #1?

Summer is coming soon!! Any insights into these programs?
