Computer Science @ GTech

As an incoming freshman in computer science at Georgia Tech, should I go with a MacBook laptop or an Android OS product, with respect to the fact that I will be taking many CS-heavy courses? What are the limitations of each, and does it even matter? Thanks so much!

Most Android OS products would likely not meet the minimum requirements Tech recommends, which can be found here: http://sco.gatech.edu/

A new MacBook running macOS 10.13 or a similarly equipped Windows PC running Windows 10 (64-bit) would be fine. You’re generally going to want a multi-core 64-bit processor with at least 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage. You could try running Android OS on a product that otherwise meets the hardware requirements, but you may run into issues trying to do so and IT will likely not work on your computer if it is running Android OS. IT will also support Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Elementary OS operating systems.

Many GaTech students are running Linux on Dell laptops. Dell is not as reliable as Apple though. Lenovo or HP will work as well.
