I'm a high school senior in NY interested in computer science.
My SAT scores are: 750 CR, 770 M, 720 W.
My weighted GPA is a 97, or 4.0.
My extracurriculars:
- President and founder of Board Game Club
- Co-President of Engineering Club
- Member of National Honor Society
- Played JV soccer for 2 years and club soccer for 3
- Did summer programs at RPI (learned Python programming language and programmed a video game), WPI (learned Ruby and HTML/CSS programming languages and created a website), the University of Toronto(Learned Matlab and C# programming languages and did programming for artificial intelligence and human-computer interactions), NYU Poly (Participated in the Samsung Mobile App Academy in which I designed and submitted a detailed original app idea), Pace Unversity (Participated in ID Tech Camp where I learned the C++ Programming Language and programmed a choose your own adventure text-based game), and Harvard (I participated in an online course which was taught using the C programming language).

Colleges I have been considering:
RPI, WPI, NYUPOLY, Columbia, Union, SUNY Stony Brook, U Rochester

Ethnicity and gender: White male

Awards: Rensselaer Medal; Xerox Award from U of Rochester; National Spanish Exam Silver Medal 2 years; National Merit Commended Scholar.

As I've seen numerous helpful comments, I would appreciate it if I could get input on the following:
1. Are my current choices appropriate and what are the views on their respective CS courses?
2. Any suggestions for alternatives, bearing in mind that I'm looking to stay within a 2 or 3 hour drive from Westchester, NY?

You’ll be a strong applicant for all of the schools listed, all of which have respectable/solid computer science programs. You could easily be a strong applicant at schools across the nation, but you stated that you do not intend of traveling far.

Did you list your schools by order of preference?

Your distance constraints really limit your options. However, if you increase it by just a little, you might want to apply to Cornell. (It’s 4 hours tops to Ithaca from Westchester)

Cornell is a really good choice in my opinion - best school for CS in NY state and your stats are at par with or maybe even slightly above the average at the College of Engineering there.

University of Pennsylvania has a strong CS program. The Engineering school at Penn is very selective. Your stats are within the range of accepted students.

And John Hopkins is geographically only slightly beyond your geographical range. It has a very strong CS program.

You might want to look into Northeastern, which is 3 hours away. Its admit scores are about the same as RPI’s, but they are a bit more generous with merit aid if that is important. They are also ranked #15 in the country for programming language (it looks like you may be interested in that)

Have you considered Boston? You could look at Northeastern which is around 3 hours north of Westchester depending on what part of the county you are in.

Also look into the Philly schools. Temple and Penn are good, though Penn may be a reach.
