I would like to receive as much feedback as possible regarding UCONN's Computer Science Honors Program in the School of Engineering. My S has been admitted but are also expecting admissions to other programs such as RPI, WPI, RIT. Also, any feedback as regards UCONN, etc. Thank you.

What specifically are you looking for?

Any and all information. Is it a good program? Are employment prospects good? How does it compare to a program such as RPI and WPI? What is campus life like? Is it recommended by those who attend? I’d appreciate any information whatsoever. Including, how does the Honors Program for CS compare to the regular program?

I would encourage you to explore the career services website, the honors website, and to explore other threads on this forum for information. There is a lot of good information that it seems you could find useful.

The Honors Program is not specific to a major; it is a University-wide program. In the last couple of years, UConn’s Honors program has been cited as being competitive with the Ivy League. I do remember (unfortunately, I cannot provide a reference, as I do not have specific recollection) that UConn’s Honors Program was recently ranked higher than Northwestern University’s Honors Program.

I cannot comment on other schools or CS specifically, but I can say that in general, if you are looking for a job in Connecticut with a CS major, you will not have too much difficulty finding a job as long as you do well academically. Unfortunately, that is as specific as I can get.

I can just offer our experience…

My son was just admitted into the Uconn Engineering School, honors, and after quite a bit of research on his part, he did not submit applications to RPI or WPI. He does have some other “reach” possibilities still out there, but he is more than happy to have a slot at Uconn. I work in the engineering/ technical industry and although this is my opinion/ observation only, I remember hearing about and seeing many WPI and RPI graduates 20 years ago, I just had not heard much about those colleges for quite a while. That is just me and I am not trying to slight them in anyway, but after we saw what Uconn had to offer I was really blown away. Uconn really appears to me to take the Engineering/ Sciences education very seriously and the investments in these areas look to be substantial.
Good luck with your investigation and just keep an open mind.
