I am two years into a degree in computer science at the University of Houston. I now regret coming here. Upper-level CS here is terrible. Some of the "teachers" are just grad students who can barely speak English. I would give up CS and just major in math, but I've been working as a programmer ("software engineer") for years and need a BS in CS. Most CS professors here are condescending and rude, and there are no programming assignments or projects here, everything is just theory. They are far more interested in grad students. The administration is rude and unhelpful. The department is incredibly chaotic. My adviser has enrolled me in the wrong classes, like putting me in a chemistry that no longer counts as a science credit for CS majors. No one here really cares. I don't mind math (I'm a math minor), but those professors don't really care either.

I'm tired of receiving a substandard overly-theoretical CS education that was designed in the 1980s, not doing any interesting projects or any programming. I've found that Texas State University focuses more on programming and less on theory, but it doesn't look like a good school from the outside. A&M looks good, but I can't afford it. So, my question is: where can I get a BS in CS in Texas which focuses on programming and projects rather than random theory? I'm not lazy, I've been working on research for a year here with MS and PhD students who know nothing about programming or algorithms.
