Hello!
I want to apply as a computer science major to UCLA, UC Berekley, and UCSD.
I want to know what will make me more eligible to get into that major (what programs should I participate in)? I just realized that I like computer science more than biology and I am a sophmore. I have already interned at a biology lab (did some data mining there, too). I don’t want what I have done in biology to affect what major I will get into.
Please share some tips as to how I can get into these schools as a comp sci or computer engineering major.
Thank you so much!!!
i’m in the same predicament… what helps though, is to take a look at the course requirements for comp sci at those respective schools. in addition, math is very important in comp sci, so definitely take up to at least calc 2
Your in highschool? Learn C, C++, python, Java, html5, php, Perl…etc. then learn data structures, logic, and software organization. If your in college then check transfer requirements. CS is meant to solve real world problems with computers. You think Biology doesn’t have any? Knowing one branch of science and then applying CS to solving problems could get you a PhD or make you a multi-trillionaire. Don’t drink, don’t do drugs, love Jesus, and fall in love with whatever science is attractive to you. CS is great and will open you up to whatever you want in life.
Math! Do not forget about the math. Take as much math/science as you can and do well in them. Get involved with clubs on campus like robotics. Take online courses through udacity/coursera/similar.
Interning at a biology lab isn’t grounds for rejection. I promise.
And be aware that computer engineering is a very different field than computer science in terms of college majors.
CS programs in colleges do not expect you to know anything about CS before you enroll. Your grades and test scores will matter more than anything.
