Hello CC! Long time lurker, first time poster here.

As the title suggests, I am a CS major at a CCC looking to transfer to mainly UCSD (Hopefully maybe UCLA as well.) I will be applying this November with around a GPA of 3.67. Now, today I found out I received a C in my electromagnetism physics, A course which is one of the core major prep courses for my major. That being said my question is will UCSD (and UCLA) see that C and disregard my application OR am I just worrying too much?

So just to clarify, I dont have to have IGETC done by the time I apply for TAG?

I guess I could complete IGETC in the next two semesters but doing so will limit my chances at UCLA by not finish their major prep. Right now I’m not sure if I should finish IGETC and have UCSD secured while ruling out UCLA, or finish UCLA major prep and Non-TAG apply at UCSD and leave the doors open for UCLA.

So my question now is do I have a realistic shot at UCLA with my GPA (and that C grade)?

Yes, you can have them in progress or planned. Obviously, there are also other requirements for TAG as well. So if you plan on doing TAG (or are thinking about it), look up UCSD’s requirements for it.

What GPA will you have after Fall? Last year (2011), the average admitted GPA for CS (UCLA) was a 3.82. It had a 8% acceptance rate. Try to fit them both in if you can. If not, only you can make the decision.

I know that for CS majors (I was a CS major until I switched) looking at UCLA, IGETC is not recommended due to the horrible workload to transfer as a CS major. I know that UCLA TAP is only for the college of letters and science and would not be counted towards the Henry Samueli School of Engineering as admissions is done by faculty and not the university itself.

Not sure about UCSD though, but I imagine it would be the same since CS is a five year program (generally) and there wouldn’t be room or time for IGETC.
