Computer Science major wanting to break into trading

I'm a freshman interested in doing quantitative trading. Maybe somewhere in the Chicago area. What kind of internships should I try aiming for during sophomore and junior year summers? What should I learn/prepare for?

I could use ANY advice.

Quantitative analysis in investment/asset allocation in the asset mangement/hedge fund space is growing pretty quickly, but strict quant trading (mid/high frequency trading) is pretty much a race to the bottom, survivors are still making a killing but the space is getting crowded out. Quants on the sell side trading desks are also not doing quite well.

Thanks for the reply. Finance has always been an interesting field to me. What would be the best path/plan at this point for AM or HF?

Bearcats, what would be a good preparation for a quantitative analysis gigs? I’m a Financial Mathematics and Economics major who’s not particularly interested quant trading, but other finance roles (except IB).

Also what’s sort of the career path for people who do quantitative analysis for HFs/AMs?
