I'm a senior and I'm considering Computer science as a major in college..however, i have been struggling in mathematics in school currently..I haven't taken any other courses such as programming and computer science in sschool either..so my question is, what kind of skills do you need to go in the cs major? Right now i think that is the major for me because i'm interested in computers and i've always wanted to learn mmore about them..thx

My understanding of the computer science major is that it is very math intensive, and over-all a rough major. You really have to want to know how to write software and build systems and be passionate about it.

One way to find out more about the major is to look up some of your schools of interest, and look for the requirements of the computer science major, then look at the class descriptions to get a general idea.

To get you started, here is a sample of the computer science major at UConn:

Not to detract you, but people have told me that the CS degree is right up there with high level engineering programs, and is very rigorous as far as math goes.

Misal23,
My experience is different. I double-majored in Math and Computer Sciences in the '70s. I found the computer science program to be very math-lite. Mostly, it is discrete mathematics. If you are ok with Algebra, and struggling with Calculus, then I think you will be fine.

Of course, I would check out specific Comp Sci programs to see just how much math they involve. Whether the major is offered through an Engineering college or Letters & Science will also affect the requirements. Suggest you check out BA programs offered through Letters & Science colleges
