Computer Science Major!

Hey everyone. Since the beginning of the semester, I've been questioning if I should do a Computer Science major. I'm decent at math (let's see how decent after my first Calc test..) and I'm a Sophomore right now. I'm currently an Economics major who was trying to transfer to Business, and although I'm doing well, I feel that I only made the choice to go into Business because of the prestige. Not because I really enjoyed it. I know I'm going to die of boredom from Finance or Accounting.

Anyways, I really want to do Computer Science, but I'm not sure if I'm capable of doing it. I just wanted to know from any other people who are currently majoring in it or have friends/family who are majoring in it at UT. How is it? Since I'm already kind of late getting started with CS, I would have to take a bunch of courses in it per semester to finish it in 4 years. Can I handle that workload in Computer Science and still pull off a decent GPA without killing my already fragmented social life?

You do realize that Computer Science consists of learning different programming languages? If you think you are going to be bored running through lines of lines and lines of numbers as an accounting or finance major, do you think you will enjoy writing and going over lines and lines of code?

Yes. I think I will enjoy it more.

You could describe most majors in that way.

English = lines and lines of text
Math = lines and lines of proofs
etc.

They’re all drastically different and interesting to different people. That doesn’t make them all boring.

It sounds like your mind is pretty much made up, switch into CS 312 and get going!
