Computer Science Major

I will graduate high school June, and will start community college this fall. I'm fairly new about what my best options are in community college. I don't want to make too many mistakes concerning taking the wrong courses, therefore, wasting money and time.

I want to get my A.A. in Computer Science with a focus in Computer Network Engineering then transfer to a four year to get my B.S. in Computer Network Engineering , and I need your help!

I need advice about what the best major courses and electives I should take. Anyone who is planning on majoring in Computer Science or has a major in CS with a focus in Network Engineering, what do you believe were the best courses to take? Which courses were completely useless? Which elective courses were the best and worst?

P.S. Is receiving my A.A. in Computer Science then B.S. in Computer Network Engineering a smart thing to do? Or should I just focus in receiving my B.S. in Computer Science or vice versa?

I would really appreciate the advice and tips! Thank you in advance :)

Since you are in California, use [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to determine which courses at your CC and others nearby are needed to prepare to transfer to the computer science major at your target UCs and CSUs.

Computer science is the major to aim for if your goal is an industry software job or graduate study in computer science (CPSLO and SJSU also offer a similar software engineering major, though the computer science major is slightly more desirable; at SJSU, the software engineering major has historically been significantly less selective for both frosh and transfer admissions).

No UC or CSU offers a “computer network engineering” major, though there are some which offer computer engineering majors that are more computer hardware design oriented than typical computer science majors.
