Does anybody have a perspective on it. I hear its particularly rigorous :/ but it sounds like my kind of thing. I've read the department site for it.

Spartyyyyy....do you know a lot about computers????????

Spar. Bro. Join me and the Comp Sci crew...

no i do not know poop about computers. Like i'm good at using them and plugging the monitor in when you unpack it ;), and I used to do really basic HTML stuff, but no, I don't know that much about them other than that.

Mercury: I hear the program is really hard? any comments? also, can you give me a general idea of what I'd learn how to to and it's future applications?

unless you're a genius, you won't have much of a life

f*** I'm no genius. Anything to say more in-depth than that?

No.. you'll survive.. I really think it has no relation to how much of a genius u are.. try it! If youre in Engineering, you'll have to take Intro to CS (Java) anyway. Im sure you'll be fine...

no i'm in arts, and intend to stay there for now haha

sparticus, Cornell's computer science is one of the best worldwide. The faculty have diverse interests and do a lot of cutting edge research; you could focus on operating systems and software engineering, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, robotics... There are really many many strong CS areas in Cornell.

As for what it takes to major in CS: unless you're doing exceptionally well with math, it depends on your educational background so far. The most interesting subareas of computer science are tightly connected to math. If you've had enough math, your freshman year should go OK. Still, it is largely an independent field, so nothing could save you from the tough courses after your freshman year :). Coming from a math-focused high school, I'd choose CS for a major over anything else. I've also heard that programmers, which is what I expect most CS majors become eventually, earn pretty good money.

Note that I'm also going to be a freshman next fall, so I'm making educated guesses :)

I took AB and did pretty well without too much work. Where does that put me?

Sorry, not familiar with ABs :(

um, bumpolicious?

What else is in the Comp Sci 100 class? Matlab? How intense is this? Are there different levels? Do I ask too many questions in a row?

you responded to one of mine so i'll respond to one of yours.

Matlab is taught in the CS 100 M class for a few weeks I think.

I take it this is a good class for people taking math classes because Matlab is used in them. (?)
