Does anybody have good insight on what the program is like?

What do people usually do when they graduate Cornell?
When would you start applying for internships?

any thoughts?

My S is double majoring in CS and ORIE. They are closely related and do make a good combination. I obviously don’t know about the CS program first-hand, but the Gates Family donated $25 million for the new Gates Computer/Information Science Building, which will be completed in December. Bill Gates picked Cornell because many of his successful employees went to Cornell. My S tells me companies start contacting kids during sophomore year for employment in many cases. My S tells me the CS professors are “really cool guys” and he is really inspired by them. Hope that helps a little, but you should seek a person who knows the program personally. Good luck!

Swimmer726, thank you for the info about that combo! I think I would like to try it, too.

More info on this:
Cornell’s CS department is fairly theoretical–doesn’t teach Rails yet, or other frameworks often used in startups but Alumni have still gone on to found Priceline, Behance, build the iPod, the Palm Pilot, and a bunch of other cool stuff.

Many recent grads either go to startups, Facebook, Google or most recently Palantir. There is a new great CS building, and many get a degree in masters of Engineering Management afterwards.

Average salary coming out is ~$100k and can go a good deal higher.
