Computer Science majors with a "3.5 & under" who are waiting for 2014 DECISIONS, come here right now

I mean, we still have to complete the ones that don’t articulate from assist.org once we transfer I think. So, the more you have, the better. I’m not sure what people mean on college confidential when they say they completed their prereqs. Now, I’m starting to think they mean that they completed even the ones that weren’t in the “required” section. If this is the case, then I hope it doesn’t lower my chances of getting in (due to more competition with people who have like 2 or 3 or more classes completed than the required ones).

@bhav007‌

When I said I completed my pre-reqs, I mean I finished all the courses articulated on assist.org that’s available at my school.
In my case that would be Calc 1-3, Linear Algebra, Discrete math, 2 programming classes(Program Design and Development, CS1: Intro to Program Structures), and the Chemistry series(2 semesters)

I also took CS2: Intro to Data Structures, but that course does not articulate to any of the UC’s I’m applying to.

@bolandgoo

Go back to Iran and get it. I’m 100% Serious. UCs seem to be really strict coursework completed at 4 years.

@HopeOverFear‌ and @dontshweatit‌, I saw guys post in the UCSD 2014 decisions thread. Would you care to tell us about your GPA, prereqs completed/or left at each UC, and which UC’s you’ve heard back from?

Let’s try to get more people post on this thread, so we can sort of compare chances lol

Hey, I applied to UCSD, UCLA, UCD, and UCI.

Major: Computer Science
GPA when applied: 3.64
GPA when TAU (update): 3.68
GPA now: 3.75
Prereqs completed for UCSD: finished IGETC, have 1 prereq left from assist
I TAGged UCSD.
Haven’t heard back from any UCs :(

(Sorry don’t want to make this thread about me! :confused: )
@bomerr: Don’t you think it’d be better to wait and see what the result is, and then if I get rejected, I go back and get the transcript and appeal the decision?! Maybe they just accept what I told them and don’t reject me.

@bolandgoo‌
I think either option is fine. If possible, you can go to Iran and request the transcript after you know your admission status and try to appeal (if rejected, of course). I hope the UC’s are somewhat understanding of your situation…since they can be so strict.

Best of luck to you!

@bolandgoo

I do not think that is a good idea. You want to be proactive, not reactive.

If you get rejected it will be for a technicality i.e. failing to provide the transcript. Which means they don’t even review / look at your application. Then if you do get rejected you’ll have to go back and get the transcript and hand it in, just like you could do right now EXCEPT you will be in a worse position. CS is usually impacted / has high competition. They’ll have your transcript and they’ll be able to evaluate your application but they have already given all the spots to other students so it’s unknown IF your appeal will even be success for that reason.

In short, if you want something bad enough go put in the work (in this case goto Iran) and make it happen.

thanks @bomerr and @ocnative‌
I have 3 classes everyday, and I work too, so can’t really go right now!!! I’m not sure if I can go back till summer!!
When do students appeal after rejection? right away? or there’s a time span, let’s say from May to June?!
I still don’t understand why they want to see my transcript while it won’t be possible to transfer those units…I know only a certain universities worldwide are accredited in US, and the one I went is not one of them for sure!

Hey, I applied to UCSD, UCLA, UCD, and UCB

Major: Computer Science
GPA when applied: 3.68
GPA when TAU (update): 3.62
GPA now: 3.62
Prereqs completed for UCSD: Only Calc 3 left
I tagged with UCD

I am superr nervous~ I just know that this year transfer for computer science are very lucky because the major is taken off the impacted major list, thus, it will be less competitive and finished/unfinished pre-req does not really matter. I hope everyone here will get into UCSD and we will all be studying in the librabry together =]

Check out the UCLA admission profile for transfer students for 2012-13. 6/501 CS majors got in… yeah none of us are getting in.

Applied to UCB, UCD, UCLA, UCI, UCSB, UCSD

Major: Computer Science
GPA when applied: 3.44~3.46
GPA after update: safely at 3.50
Major GPA: 4.0 (not really sure what this is, but I’m guessing it’s all the classes the major requires aside from GE classes)
Prereqs: Finished nearly all that were articulated with my school or will be finished after this semester. Exception is that I am missing UCLA’s requirement for Chemical Structures and Logic Designs of Digital Systems.
TAG: UCD
Accepted: n/a
Rejected: ALL CSUs I have applied for (I kinda rushed the apps on CSUs, but still getting rejected by all makes me nervous).

Additional Info: Had a bad lapse in grades in past (which is explained in personal statement, not whining about difficulties). Last two or so years has been straight As in more difficult classes. So I’m hoping my recent track record would be taken into consideration than the overall gpa. I finished all mathematical and applicable physics requirements, but have not finished majority of computer science classes (finishing them up this semester) so I’m not sure how that would weigh in on decisions.

@jonjon03‌, which CSU’s did you apply to?

That’s weird, if you will have done most of your prereqs by the end of Spring, then I think you should’ve gotten into at least a couple CSU’s. Also, a 3.44-3.46 is a decent GPA.

I got rejected from all CSUs too…I missed the speech course (one of the “four golden courses”)

@bhav007 I think I wasn’t missing a course, but I calculated my CSU gpa completely wrong. It averaged out to be 3.0, and at that time I already knew I had a TAG with UCD so didn’t put too much effort into my csu apps. Also, I forgot to mention that I used to attend Cal Poly Pomona, I left that school with a 1.8 gpa. Could possibly be why I’ve been rejected by all CSUs. Anywho I’m happy to go to UCD. It be nice to have options, but considering my past gpa I am lucky to have another shot.
