Hi all,
I'm a junior in high school and in the process of choosing a major, like many of us on this forum are. After over a year of elimination, i've narrowed the search down to two choices. Computer Sciences (i'm somewhat of a computer geek) or Medicine.

Initially, i thought i would do a typical Computer Science major, and then decide on whether to go to Med. School, or to continue along the comp. science path by getting a masters degree from there. However, at a recent college fair, I was told this wasn't as simple i originally assumed (I was told this by a woman on the admissions board at UPENN). In short, she told me that while doing an Computer Science or Engineeing major, i would probably not have the time to take the required courses to apply to med. school, such as organic chemistry. She also said that people in this situation have to take a 2-year tranistion type course before applying to medical school.

So here's the question: Can i apply to Medical School strait from a Computer Science or Engineering major? And if not, what would you reccomend i do? Perhaps there is some sort of combined degree or booster program designed for kids split between engineering and medicine. Any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated.

P.S. This probably should be in a different section of the forums (not "College Search and Selection"), but i figured (hoped) that the answer to my question would play a part in narrowing my college options.

P.P.S. I also plan on applying to some combined BA/MD programs, so this dilemma is based on the assumption that i don't get into any such program.

Once again, thanks in advance for any feedback.

I have another quick question to add. I registered to take the SATs on March 12th, however, due to snow they were postponed to April 2nd. Will i still get my scores on April 11th like the rest of the country?

yeah you can do CS for undergrad and then go on to medical school. i've heard of people doing it. the important thing about getting into medical school is keeping up you grades and doing well on the MCAT

You can go from engineering or computer sci to med school....it does however require some effort to get in biology, etc with electives. Some people will go to summer school to make it less intense.

Would it be possible to do a biology minor along with a computer science major? People have told me that your major and minor should be related, but biology and computer science are very different

There is a new field called bioinformatics combining biology and computing. But I am not sure if some school offers B.S. degree on that.

Or computational biology is quite popular right now. Some school have their BME major structured to have CS, EE, and Bio all combined. You have to do your own research here. Some BMEs I know are pretty geeky:)
