Computer Science Minor at UC Berkeley

Hello, I am a freshman at Cal trying to major in Biology.
Here is the question,
will minoring in CS help me get more opportunities for jobs after graduation?
will simply taking some CS class help too?
if so, which do you recommend?

If you’re doing MCB because you want to do pre-med and you’re also interested in computer science, I’d recommend just majoring in CS and then completing pre-med requirements (Lower div physics, chem, bio, etc.). There aren’t too many courses separating the CS minor from the CS major - I believe it’s just one or two more upperdiv CS courses and EE16A+EE16B. On the other hand, there are a lot of upper division biology courses that you don’t need for medical school and likely won’t help you much with getting non-research related jobs in the future.

I’d be more concerned with keeping your GPA high while taking CS courses. It’s very difficult to consistently get A-/A grades in Cal’s CS courses if you don’t have a strong problem solving/mathematics background from high school, so make sure you know what you’re getting into before you attempt to pursue a minor, major, or even just take courses in CS.
