computer science minor?

Awhile back I asked on whether to major in both mechanical engineering and computer science and I came to the conclusion that I would rather focus on mechanical engineering and minor in computer science. The question I do have since I plan on doing this is that will I still be able to learn code? does doing a minor give you a second degree? and will I still be able to work as a software developer? The reason I’m asking is because even though I talked about being a quant I still want to have other options?

The answers to your questions would be yes, no, maybe, but you’d be better off having a second degree in comp sci if you want to be a software developer. Completing a minor in any department means that you have fewer requirements to fulfill so you’re not as knowledgeable in that area as you would be if you completed a major, thus making you less desirable as someone who has a degree in comp sci. A minor is usually used to aid someone in furthering their education and making them more likely to acquire employment in their field. It’s often, but not always, related to the major.
