Computer Science or Associate of Science degree?

Could someone give me their opinion on this CS program: http://cscc.edu/academics/departments/computer-it/plan15-16.shtml

I’m most interested in the Software Developer track, as it offers more computer programming courses than the other tracks. However since this is at a community college, I’m not sure whether it would be a waste of time to major in CS now, or wait until I transfer to a four-year university to major in CS? Should I pursue an AS degree instead?

Thanks for your replies!

If you can get a head start by taking some CS classes at a community college, go for it. I’d talk to a counselor at Columbus State to make sure the credits will transfer to whatever 4 year college you’d want to go to.

If you have a Bachelor’s degree, whether you have an Associates or not won’t matter.

In Florida, the AS track is different from the AA track in that AA track is basically the same thing as GenEd at a 4-yr institution. So if you get an AA, you’re well on your way to the BA or BS if you decide to go on. AS track is more for someone looking to get a job with that AS (and not necessarily move on to a Bachelor’s, though of course it’s still possible).

I would definitely meet with an advisor at the CC, as well as the university where you might want to go.
