Computer Science or Computer Engineering Direct Admit

Has anyone received a notice about acceptance into the direct admit program for CS or CE? I know they're supposed to notify incoming freshman by the end of March.

I also know for a fact that they don't (or haven't in the past) send notifications if you don't get into either majors through direct admit.

I applied to the UW with Computer Science as my intended major.

My admission status has been “we have received” since late December… so, no I haven’t heard about direct admit, and also haven’t heard about admission in general.

I am curious if there are other Comp Sci students who are still waiting to hear.

Right here.

I am a Comp Sci major. I did the unofficial transcript thing and it said supposedly I got in but I haven’t received a letter yet…

@woahitsraj - so does your major say “Computer Science” in the unofficial transcript? Mine is still pre-science (Arts and Sciences)

E-mails were sent out last week informing some students that they were accepted as direct admits and inviting them to Direct Admit Day in April. Follow up letters were to come in the mail. I believe that there may be another round of direct admits so if you haven’t received an e-mail yet, it’s possible you still might.

Ohh okay! Thanks for the info! I really hope I get into Direct Admit!

@bubbleteachibi
yeah, mine says pre-science also

I applied for Computer Engineering and you get put into Pre-Engineering first. After you have completed some of the beginning requirements, then they allow you to choose a specific Engineering major.

CS, CSE and the other Engingeering majors at UW are competitive as is Business and a variety of other popular majors, meaning you have to apply to the department after completion of certain minimum requirements, though there is accelerated admission for current UW students who are in the top 10% of the CSE 143 class and meet other requirements.

The department also accepts around 20 - 25% of its incoming class directly out of high school. They review all high school applicants who list CS or CSE as their intended major for Direct Admission and cherry pick those they want for Direct Admit. I would also guess it is a recruiting tool, to lure top high schoolers to the program who might otherwise go somewhere where they are guaranteed to be able to major in CS or CSE, unlike UW, where there would otherwise be no guarantee they would be accepted into the department.

I was put into Pre-Science but got the Direct Admit letter on Saturday (March 28th).
Looks like I’m a Computer Science Major!

what about me? I put computer engineering when I applied and my unofficial transcript says I’m pre-engineering. But I haven’t received any other letter except the acceptance letter.
am I admitted directly from the department? I have no idea.

huskiss -
you will receive a letter if you get direct admit. be warned though, it’s only about 40 people total - 20 from computer science and 20 from computer engineering - as they only admit around 20% of their incoming class of 80 for each major.
