Hi all. I am going to go to a community college before going to a university. I know I want to do software engineering. Unfortunately, the community college does not have that. It only has computer science and just engineering. I plan to transfer after I get my associate's.

Anyway, my question is, which of the two, computer science or engineering, would benefit in getting a software engineering job/career.

Computer science. More specifically, take the courses needed to transfer to your target four year school in its computer science major.

A few colleges have a software engineering major that is very similar to a computer science major, but has additional software engineering methods courses in place of some computer science topics courses. However, it is likely that the additional computer science topics (if chosen carefully) are slightly more valuable in industry software jobs, assuming that one has had one introductory software engineering course.
