Computer Science or Mathematics major?

My son’s favorite subject is Math, but he also likes computer science - these majors are in different departments at CS - which is less difficult to get admitted into?

DS currently started his senior year. - In State
GPA: 4.12 (based on grades 9-11)
SAT: 1430
MCA: 4735 (I think) - does tutoring other students and getting paid cash count as “work”?

Is there a major that would include both math and cs?

Thanks!

Being a mathematician and a computer scientist are VERY different. He should pick the one that he’s most interested in pursuing a career in, not the easiest admit.

BTW, what constitutes “work” is open to interpretation. I’d certainly consider being a paid tutor work.

getting into mathematics is definitely MUCH easier than getting into comp sci at UT. Comp sci is ranked very highly at UT in the nation, thus getting in is extremely difficult. If you son is more passionate about comp sci, then he should apply there but if he is considering both options and wants a better chance of getting in, mathematics is the way to go!
