Is anyone familiar with the CS program at Duke? Is it difficult to get into and is it a good program? I noticed that it is not under the Pratt School of Engineering (unlike most schools that are under the engineering umbrella). Also, can you tell me he chances on a student that has a 33 composite ACT, 3.5 unweighted, 4.2 weighted, OK EC’s and AP scholar with distinction. Thanks.
I’m not able to personally speak about Duke’s CS program, but I doubt you could go wrong with it. Granted, if you’re specifically looking at a computer science degree then there are probably better schools (in terms of rankings). A 33 ACT score falls right in Duke’s 50th percentile for the class of 2018 (according to their 2013-2014 Common Data Set). They do not report the incoming class’s GPA’s so it’s impossible to give an exact percentile. Based on past acceptances seen on College Confidential, a 3.5 may be slightly lacking, but don’t let that discourage you. AP scholar with distinction may help, but simply work on presenting yourself in the best light.
Thanks!!
Pratt is on the verge of becoming a globally elite engineering school. I don’t think the CS department is far behind.
