Hey all, I’ve recently been looking into some colleges and could really use some recommendations from you guys to give me a place to start. I’m from MO, so schools in the Midwest area/TN/KY would be preferable, but I’ll look into other stuff as well. Colleges that give out good merit aid would be great as well.
32 ACT (35 R, 34 S, 33 E, 27 M…should be getting raised since I will do a lot better on math next time around)
4.14 GPA (3.9 UW)
Will have taken 3 AP courses by the time I graduate - Calc AB, Lit, and Comp Science. My schedule is not rigorous at all regretfully, and my ECs are very weak as well.
As mentioned in the title, I plan to major in CS and schools with a strong CS program would be preferable.
Also, this is my first post on here, so I hope this is the right forum and I provided enough information to help you guys help me.
Hum where to start. Are you not qualified for any need base, and if you need merit how much do you plan to pay a year? Do you want state college, tech college?
UMN, UIUC, Rose Hulman, Iowa State, Case Western, Illinois Inst. Tech
University of Missouri and Missouri University of Science and Technology seem like obvious starting points.
In the region are other schools like Iowa State and Minnesota that are not too expensive for out-of-state students. Further away, some of the well known automatic big merit schools will offer the big merit scholarships for your stats.
Do you want to go to a technical institute/math science focused college (like Rose-Hulman, Colorado School of Mines, Harvey Mudd, etc.) or do you want to go to a more general university with a good CS program? Or does it not matter?
My family’s in come is ~$100000…don’t know if that qualifies me or not.
I have no interest in going to Mizzou and would prefer a smaller/mid-size school over a big university, but I’ll look into anything really.
As for tech school vs general school, it doesn’t really matter to me. Is one usually more expensive than the other? Do general universities usually give out more merit aid scholarships? Or does it vary from school to school?
Also, I’ve yet to figure out how much my parents are willing to pay for me for college. They have to help put four kids through college, so I can imagine it won’t be too much.
You need to run the net price calculators with help from your parents at each school suggested on this site to see what your likely cost of attendance would be. They are on the financial aid website page for each school. This is an important step, as finances will likely be a big issue for you.
