Computer Science Schedule

I don't know what times I can place any of these courses but how does this workload look?
ICS 21
Math 2A (I believe this is Calc AB right?)
I didn't pass the writing thing so 39A
Should I add in another class?

you could if you want…You could take a G.E and take it as a Pass/Fail so it won’t be too burdensom for your main classes. Oh if only i had known of that Pass/Fail system before summer school…History is boring as ****** but enlightening nonetheless. Idk though convention seems to say go easy your first quarter…so its up to you :).

So far it seems ICS counts for a lot of different categories of GE’s which is nice. Also if I took Spanish 3 I fulfill the “Language other than English” requirement correct?

I think they will encourage you to only take the 12 units, or three classes. Keep in mind there will be labs/discussions to go along with the lectures, and the rule of thumb is three hours studying out of class for every hour in class.

My daughter is an ICS student as well and has a similar schedule, except with APs and other test scores she is taking ICS 22, Math 2B and Writing 39B. I would honestly NOT takea nything else first quarter, just to ease into everything. You can always beef up your schedule in the 2nd/3rd quarters.

How does this look?

Yea I wish my school offered AP Computer Sci would have loved to get ahead. Got a 4 on my Calc test, still want to take 2A though since I know how important Calc is for a lot of programming. Sadly I’m terrible at writing but have got my Science GE’s out of the way from AP Chem and AP Bio so it just leaves Writing, and the culture courses. Probably gonna take nothing but ICS a few quarters since I want to try and get a concentration in game design.

Forgot to put the ICS 21 Lecture but it would be TTH at 5 -6:50

SprinkKnoT, looks like a good plan to me! Your adviser at SPOP will let you know if they see any holed in your plan, but it makes a lot of sense to get a writing class in first quarter, just to help you prepare for writing in future classes.

My daughter took AP Comp Sci her junior year and feels pretty comfortable going in to ICS 22, she knows java well. As for AP Calc, she did get a 5 (after struggling mightily all year in the class, but apparently she learned it) so is going in to Math 2B. They MAY push you into the same thing, with your 4 in AP Calc. They will give you a report at SPOP showing your AP scores and what they mean in terms of credit…with that 4, you will have credit already for Math 2A. They list this on the form:

“If you have credit for UCI courses from your AP exams and you enroll in the UCI course, you will not normally receive credit or grade points for the second taking.”

Definitely talk to your adviser at SPOP and be prepared to take Math 2B. They have a class time set aside for students in ICS, Physics and Engineering, so that may be what you end up with. There is always outside tutoring available if you think the 2B is going to be a stretch. They will talk about that as well. Good luck!
