My son is a senior with a unweighted 3.2 mostly due to a poor freshman year. He scored a 28 on his ACT score with a 29 in both the math and science sections. He currently has taken computer science classes in high school and has received As in them and is taking computer science AP this year. He does well in his math and science classes. I understand with his grades he’s not getting into any of the top programs but what we’re looking for is a school that has a good program that is also trying to have the student succeed in the program and not weed them out. He would like a larger school with sporting events to go watch with a lot of school spirit. We are located in N.J. But he would prefer to go away. My older son went to the Midwest. I don’t know if he could get any merit money, but cost is a factor, we’d like to spend about $30,000 a year. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Always looking for a good school I have not thought about. Thanks in advance!!
Michigan Tech and Rose-Hulman are likely too expensive…
Maybe Lake Superior State, Northern Kentucky, Western New Mexico. You might look at Northern Michigan too.
They all have CS programs, and none of them are scary expensive. I’ve visited LSSU, and while I don’t think they have football, they do like their hockey. I’m OK with it. Haven’t visited NKU or WNMU, but I’ve been to Silver City and it’s … Well, it’s sort of like Santa Fe without all the Californians (nothing against CA, but the influence does radically affect the local scene).
